Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Review


Let’s get into a quick review of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. The main feature of this tablet is the 7 inch PLS LCD Capacitive display. It is also a low budget tablet. The processor is  dual core, but only with a 1 GHz processing speed. Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich OS is running inside this tablet. Amazon Kindle Fire, Acer Iconia Tab A100 and Google Nexus 7 are the main rivals of this device in the tablet market.

 Look and Feel

Users are free to do much customization with the help of the latest Ice Cream Sandwich OS. The TouchWiz UI is very comfortable to deal with. The special keys that are provided on the front panel are Home Key, Back Key and the Task Switching Key. The homescreen is easily adjustable.

Shortcuts for voice and text are provided at the extreme top end of the homescreen.  The CPU performance is OK. The inbuilt applications are AllShare, Polaris office, Music Hub, Social Hub, Video Player, Pulse Reader and My files. The Mini Apps available are email, calculator, music player, S memo, task manager and messaging. The notification area provides information about GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has got a 3.15 MP camera. Camera has no LED flash. There is a VGA front camera for video calling. The rear camera can capture 720p videos.  The camera UI is similar to Galaxy Smartphones. Giving very less noise levels, the camera proved to be above average.  The 720p videos captured are also OK. The sound of the recorded audio is Stereophonic  too.

Design

7 inch PLS LCD Capacitive touch screen forms the framework for this gadget. The microphone is situated at the bottom part. There is a front camera for video calling at the front. The 3.5 mm audio jack is at the extreme top end. The speakers of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 are located at the bottom part. The 30-pin charging connector is also at the bottom.

There is no USB charging for this gadget. The SIM card slot and micro SD slot are situated on the sides. Both have got plastic cover for protection. The Power/ Lock buttons and the Volume adjustment keys are on the right side. The four corners of the device are well rounded.

Battery

It has got a 4000 mAh Li-Ion battery. There is no way to remove the battery pack.

Processing Capabilities

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 comes with TI OMAP 4430 SoC chipset with a 1GHz dual core Cortex-A9 processor. This processor can very well compete against the existing tablets. The PowerVR SGX540 GPU is not a frontrunner GPU. Samsung intentionally skipped a Mali-400MP GPU for this Tab.

Mutimedia Features

The gallery interface is awesome. We can easily sync our Picasa Web Albums with this device. The Music Player is also well made. It is the conventional TouchWiz music player with smooth funtionality. We can arrange our music files easily. The video player which supports MKV/XviD/DivX is exceptional. Fully HD videos with subtitles can be played.

The web browser is Adobe Flash 11 compatible. Bookmarks and History can be easily accessed. The browser features tabbed browsing too. Usernames and passwords can be filled automatically.

Connectivity

It supports both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz band Wi-Fi. DLNA feature is also available. There is no NFC connectivity. It supports 8/16/31 GB micro SD cards. The USB-on-the-go feature can be achieved only by buying an extra adapter. Bluetooth 3.0 Feature is also present. Satellite Lock is attained by the GPS receiver within just 120 seconds. Google Maps is also preloaded.
